 Prayer Counsel...

Do you have any godly advice to share with us regarding prayer?
Use the form below to send prayer counsel.

One day a boy was watching a holy man praying on the banks of a river in India. When the holy man completed his prayer the boy went over and asked him, "Will you teach me to pray?"  The holy man studied the boy's face carefully.  Then he gripped the boy's head in his hands and plunged it forcefully into the water!  The boy struggled frantically, trying to free himself in order to breathe. Finally, the holy man released his hold.  When the boy was able to get his breath, he gasped, "What did you do that for?"  The holy man said: "I just gave you your first lesson."  "What do you mean?" asked the astonished boy.

"Well," said the holy man, "when you long to pray as much as you longed to breathe when your head is underwater -- only then will I be able to teach you to pray." ~ Mark Link

Artillery
by Tony, Former Marine

I wish to submit this little message which I hope in some way may assist you all. As a former marine we were taught what is the point in assaulting an enemy position, and in the end, the possibility of losing lives, when you can simply call on artillery to pound the enemy positions, to weaken their strongholds, then, and only then, can you send in your troops to attack with small arms fire.

Prayer is our artillery fire. Through prayer we weaken Satan's strongholds.  AND THEN, ONLY THEN, can we go in with our small arms fire, the sword ( the Word OF God), and engage him. Remember, the battle has already been won. We simply have to accept it through faith, and GO IN. So my friends, call on the artillery fire and watch the blessed results.

May the Lord richly bless you all,
                                   Tony.

Attack Spiritually
by
shofar

Someone sent me a "prayer tip" comment in response to the Thanksgiving prayer tip. Let me share it here with you:

Quote:
WOW! BECAUSE ALL THINGS WORK TOGETHER FOR GOOD TO THEM THAT LOVE GOD! but also, remember 'the enemy' tries to mask 'things he does' as though they were from The Lord, and we need to have on the Full Armor of God, SUBMIT OURSELVES TO GOD, resist the devil, and he will flee from us. We need to KNOW WHAT IS OURS! Jesus came as 'Our Deliverer' and to DESTROY the works of satan! PRAISE! PRAISE! PRAISE! BELIEVE GOD LOVES YOU...BELIEVE IN THE POWER OF GOD...SAY WHAT GOD SAYS... AND YOU WILL SEE THE ANSWER TO YOUR PRAYERS! SHALOM!

This reminded me of another prayer tip I would like to share.

We are told to stand our ground. That ground is already ours to stand by the work of Christ on the Cross -- IT IS FINISHED!

So many of us weary ourselves by jumping, dodging, and fearing the roars of the evil one when we are told to "rest" in Christ, "realize" our heavenly armor and "resist" the devil.

So many of us challenge the devil to fight for the land that has already been fought and paid for. Don't give in to the devil's tactics. Know who you are in Christ Jesus.

Also, your post brings us to another good prayer tip.

Prayer Tip: *attack spiritually*

2 Corinthians 10:2-6, "For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. And we will be ready to punish every act of disobedience, once you obedience is complete."

Not only do we pray for our own protection but we reach out and attack the predominate sins around us. For example: abortion, prostitution, promiscuity, pornography, drugs, gangs, hate crimes, etc.

Ask God to reveal to you the areas in your community where you can start directing prayers that crush the work of darkness.                                                                                                                           bible devotional

Bless

"Bless the Lord, Oh My Soul, and all that is within me bless His Holy Name." Psalm 103:1

"My mouth shall speak the praise of the LORD: and let all flesh Bless His Holy Name for ever and ever." Psalm 145:21

There is a wonderful Scripture in Isaiah that speaks of God and Blessing. Ah Yes! Isaiah 30:18. In the Hebrew this whole verse paints a picture of "BLESSING."

"But the LORD still waits for you to come to Him so He can show you His love and compassion. For the LORD is a faithful God. Blessed are those who wait for Him to help them."

It is good to "bless" God. In the Hebrew GOD is lifting Himself up on high in order that He may shower us with "blessings."                                                                                                               bible devotional

Confess

Examine your heart ...

Have you become complacent, compromising or conformed to the ways of the world?

"Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your unfailing love; ...

"according to Your great compassion blot out my transgressions. ...

"Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. ...

"For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me.

"Against You, You only, have I sinned and done what is evil in Your sight, ...

"so that You are proved right when You speak and justified when You judge."

Diligence

The Word Diligence is on my mind.

We are to be diligent in prayer. To pray diligently to me means to continue to pray until the Lord tells you not to. Now that to me doesn't mean that you need to pray for it every single minute of every single day.....unless your being prodded by the Holy Spirit. Diligent also means to me believing that God is listening and going to answer your prayer in His way. I think of the Persistent Woman who went to the judge and asked for help, she basically in my words, wore the judge down and he granted her request. I also believe that we are to be respectful when being diligent....not with an attitude of demanding (like you owe me).

Diligent to me means asking God with a respectful heart to continue to pray until God tells you not to. I'd like to give you an example.

I had a friend who was going to give her testimony in church on one Sunday. She asked me if I would pray for her that the Lord would lead and direct her words and that the Lord would give her peace of mind. I started praying for her and continued to pray. One day the Lord spoke to my heart and said to stop praying for this prayer because He had answered it. I didn't tell the person so when she called the next day she asked me to continue to pray for this exact need. I told her I couldn't she was shocked and asked why not. I told her the Lord told me it was answered. She was persistent in wanting me to pray and I said to her, "I can pray for anything else but I cannot pray for this exact prayer because God has already answered it." She was okay with that and did not ask me to pray for this particular need. See, God worked in many ways in this prayer, one He answered it, two I choose to be obedient, and 3 my friend accepted that God answered and stood on that truth.                                                                                           karen

Pray for Faith

Many of us are hindered in our prayers because we don't have faith to step out and pray for those, seemingly, "out of reach" things. We feel safe praying our "general" prayers of, "Father, keep me safe today ... help me to get through this day .... etc... " which are good and necessary prayers but they are molehills compared to the mountains we could be moving if we had more faith and trust in our God. Is our faith such that we could call on fire to fall from heaven and the sea of turmoil to spread apart before us?

Psalm 37:5-6, "Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him and He will do this: He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun."

God Bless You!                                                                          bible devotional

Hezekiah's Prayer
by Karen

I don't know what to title this prayer but I've just recently started to pray it for some requests in my family.  The prayer is from Hezekiah 38:3-7

"Remember, O Lord, how I have walked before you faithfully and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes."  And Hezekiah wept bitterly.  Then the word of the Lord came to Isaiah: "Go and tell Hezekiah, 'This is what the Lord, the God of your father David, says:  I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will add fifteen years to your life.  And I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria.  I will defend this city.  'This is the Lord's sign to you that the Lord will do what He has promised:  I will make the shadow cast by the sun go back the ten steps it has gone down on the stairway of Ahaz.'  That has been my prayer that the Lord will let the shadow of time or life go back ten steps so one might live a longer life.

Humbly

Submit, empty yourself from your knowledge, your thoughts, your ideas and humble yourself before Him on His throne.

Agnes Sanford writes in her book, "Healing Light." When praying for someone's physical healing that we can visualize the physical part we are asking prayer for and see the way God created it to be. That as we look at it from the Father's perspective to lift up the person we are praying for and see God's mighty hand at work. She also shares that this is a way of praying for others at distances, when we are unable to be with the person and lay hands on them.

Name of Jesus
by shofar

Philippians 2:10, "That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;.."

This is one I would have easily overlooked, and yet, has such a profound place in our prayers.

How many of us rattle off the phrase "In the Name of Jesus, Amen" without putting any thought or heart behind those words as we close out our prayers.

One way for me to assure that I realize the power in that name is to "begin" my prayers with that phrase. I go straight to the Father, empowered and under the direction of the Holy Spirit, and let the words: "In the Name of My Precious Master and Savior Yeshua HaMeshiach (Jesus the Messiah) I bring before You, Abba Daddy, this offering of my devotion as spoken from the lips of Jesus Christ.

In other words, I make sure BEFORE I begin praying that I have stopped in my "busy-ness" to acknowledge the role Jesus Christ has in our prayers.

If I "picture" in my mind that Jesus Christ is going to be the one presenting my prayer to the Father:

... it stirs my heart to be sure to pray prayers of compassion for others and a deep devotion for our Heavenly Father.

... it helps me to submit and to die to self.

... it helps me to keep my focus on Jesus Christ, our example.

... it sounds an alarm in the evil realm ((evil realizes, fully, the power in the name of Jesus Christ))

*grin* I challenge you to put the name of Jesus first in your prayers and realize that when Jesus is first in ALL that we do, we get done ALL that needs done.

Petition

We need to be a people of prayer who have a desire to see a prayer through to its answer. So many of us will pray and then that prayer escapes our mind & our heart. Oh that God would place in the hearts of His people a desire to pray a prayer through to its fulfillment!

"... Praying always with prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints. Ephesians 6

Praise

Take time to praise God for who He is.

1 Chronicles 29:11-13,

"Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, ...

"For everything in heaven and in earth is Yours. ...

"Yours, O Lord, is the Kingdom; ...

"You are exalted as head over all ...

"Wealth and honor come from You; ...

"You are the ruler of all things. ...

"In Your hands are strength and power to exalt and give strength to all. ...

"Now, our God, we give You thanks, and praise Your Glorious Name."

Pray for Israel
shofar

Psalm 122:6, "Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: May they prosper who love You."

Folks, are you praying for that golden city? If not, put up reminders and do it daily. Israel (Jerusalem) has always been a type of gauge of God's movement upon mankind.

God's Word states that if Israel will call out to the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob for deliverance he will be there for them.

"Call upon me in the day of trouble, I will deliver you, and you will honor me (Ps 50:15). If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land" (2 Chron 7:14).

We have seen, in our lifetime prophecies fulfilled regarding Israel.

Pray for the Jews who are scattered throughout the world to return to the land of Israel.

"For I will take you out of the nations, I will gather you from all the countries and bring you back into your own land. I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean. I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws" (Ezek 36:24-27).

Pray that the Prince of Peace will come. Pray that Israel will recognize the Jesus as their Messiah.

"And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication. They will look on me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son" (Zech 12:10).

Pray for Jerusalem to be the center of worship for the "tribes of the LORD."

Praying the Scriptures
by karen

I have experienced two different ways of praying the Scriptures. One, I was led by the Holy Spirit to a special Scripture verse as I was praying for several different people. The particular verse was, "This is not unto death but the glory of God." This prayer was told the disciples about Lazarus, Mary and Martha's brother. We had three different people that the Lord gave me that Scripture for. I prayed it because it came so powerful to me. One man was completely healed of a massive stroke, another man was completely healed of stomach cancer, and the third man was completely healed of a brain tumor. God specifically called me to this prayer for these three and I was obedient to His calling.

I have also used a book called, "The Sword of the Spirit.....the Word of God," by Joy Lamb. This particular book has category's of Scriptures for certain types of prayer. For example it has Scripture for Deliverance Prayers, Scripture for Strength, for Wisdom and Knowledge, Scriptures for Healing and more. I have used this book many times because the prayers are sound and true. The Deliverance Prayers are wonderful in the sense that they cover just about everything. While I am praying using this book and the Scriptures the Holy Spirit might add to that particular prayer or He might exclude certain things because they do not pertain to that person I'm praying for.

Many people have been taught to pray the Scriptures and can stand on them firmly and lovingly. For me praying this way strengthens my relationship with the Lord and opens me up to following His leading. What is important to me is staying Open to the Holy Spirits leading. Don't be afraid you're forgetting something or you're not praying right. Step out and trust God He will definitely lead you as you pray.

Prepare

Ask for an anointing (guidance) of the Holy Spirit as you prepare to meet with our God during your prayer time.

Psalm 51:10-12, "Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from Your presence or take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore me to the joy of Your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me."

Prostrating Prayer

This prayer reminds me of King David praying to God for his first born child.  To me it means submitting yourself before the throne of God on your stomach.  Laying fully stretched out on the floor before God and petitioning Him to hear Your prayer.  It means laying aside yourself and thinking only on Him.  Also, in this prayer it means to listen to what He has to say.  This prayer I am usually called to.  The Holy Spirit puts it on my heart when I need to do this and I obey His direction. I often think of the Woman who washed Jesus' feet with her tears, I envision myself at His feet on the floor and I am honored to be there.                                                   karen

Repentance
by karen

A prayer of Repentance

I have seen two types of prayer of Repentance. One is where a lot of remorse is involved, the other is a prayer of faith in repentance.

Repentance Remorse
This type of prayer is one where you are convicted deeply and all that comes out is weeping and acknowledgment of Jesus as Lord of that particular area of your life. Sometimes wailing will be involved realizing the severity of your actions. I have found that the Lord God when this type happens is deeply cleansing the person and healing them from the depths of their souls. Both of these types are extremely healing to me they are a way of acknowledging that God is in control, that He loves us and He forgives us when we come to Him and ask for His mercy, forgiveness and grace.

The second type faith repentance is acknowledging that we have done something wrong, ex. reading our horoscopes, having played the Ouija board, having our palms read, etc. It's believing that once we acknowledge that these have hurt the Lord our God and that they are and were wrong then it means to walk in faith and not go back to them again. This type for me means doing my best to walk the straight path, it means not yeilding to temptation and believing that God knows all and sees all and that all I need to do is lean on Him and Trust Him.

In the prayer of Repentance - this prayer means turning away from. That's what repentance is - making a u-turn so to speak. Like Lot not looking back......keeping one's eyes looking forward towards Jesus. I believe that there are times in our lives where we back slide and need to ask for forgiveness and sometimes I believe repentance is needed again. Temptation leads us if we let it and we need to guard ourselves from it.                                         karen

Seeking God's Counsel

When concerned about something, make sure you seek the Lord and His mind about the person or situation.  We want to always pray the prayers the Lord gives us, and not pray soulish prayers that come from the mind, will, or emotions.  The Lord will tell you how to pray, when to pray, and for whom to pray.  That way you can be sure you are praying in line with His will.  He is a faithful Father!  For more on this topic, look for books on intercession by Barbara Wentroble and Dutch Sheets.  Praise the Lord that He involves us in His work on earth!

Soaking Prayer
by karen

I believe in something called Soaking Prayer. I have been blessed to partake in this type of prayer and to be taught how to.

Soaking Prayer - is extended prayer for someone who has a chronic illness or someone who is critically ill. When you enter in to this type of prayer it is important to empty yourself of yourself and allow the Lord Jesus Christ to come and dwell in your heart and mind. In other words it's like fasting with the mind and heart allowing it to be open to the Lord. You lay down any preconceived thoughts or ideas on how to pray or what to pray for. You meet with your prayer person once a week for a certain amount of time usually determined by the clergy. Our prayers are centered around the ministry of Jesus' Healing Grace and we pray asking Him for to lead us and guide us during our prayer time. Many times there are silences and we are just resting in the Presence of the Lord Jesus. Other times we might be full of the Holy Spirit and sense His presence in a manifested way. Our prayer time is usually one half hour or more depending on what the Lord is doing. We often start with just chatting generally and asking our pray person how they are doing and if any specific need in our prayer time today. After that we pray to enter into God's Holy presence and pray until we are finished. If God reveals something afterwards that is shared, if not then we say our good-byes and that we will see them next week.

I have been very blessed when I've been involved with this type of prayer. I believe it incorporates all types of prayer from forgiveness, petition, to healing. God is in control and it is His Ministry.

Francis Mac Nutt's book on Healing has a chapter or maybe just a few pages on this type of prayer. If you are interested look for his book called, Healing.

Also, the Scripture reference we use for this type of prayer is when Jesus healed the blind man and asked him what he saw and the Blind man said trees and Jesus laid hands on him again and then he saw clearly. We also use the reference when Jesus was in the Garden of Gethsemane and prayed the same exact words three times.                          karen

Stillness
by Karen

What I received this morning is: "Be Still and Know that I Am God."

Okay, you might ask how can I be still and pray, or maybe you have a way of being still and pray that you can share with us, please do on the prayer page under Intercessors.   I just want to give a few ways to do this.

1. You can be still first and then pray.

2.  You can pray then be still.

3.  You can copy and print out the requests come before the Lord lay hands on the print out and pray being still and letting the Holy Spirit guide you.

4.  Or you can just come into His Presence soak up the Lord and then believe that God has heard your concern through your heart and mind.

So for today, Come and be Still before the Lord Your God.

Thanksgiving

"Be joyful always, pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." Philippians 4:6-7

I would like to share a quote with you:

William Law: "If anyone would tell you the shortest, surest way to happiness and all perfection, he must tell you to make it a rule to yourself to thank and praise God for everything that happens to you. For it is certain that whatever seeming calamity happens to you, if you thank and praise God for it, you turn it into a blessing."

Take Time Out
wiz00@bellsouth.net

In the matchless name of Jesus I greet you.  I encourage all to take time out, set aside a time to bask in the presence of God.  Let this time be a time that you give attention to nothing else but that.  This not only extends our relationship with the Father, but it teaches us discipline.  We must die to this flesh daily for our King is soon to return and we the body of Jesus Christ must take this stand.

Prayer Walking

Ephesians 6:14, 18: "For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News, so that you will be fully prepared…Pray at all times and on every occasion in the power of the Holy Spirit. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all Christians everywhere" (NLT).

I can think of no better way to put those “shoes of peace” to practice than to walk about your neighborhood praying as you pass by homes. I did this when a new housing area was going up not too far from my home. I would walk up and down this small ½ mile stretch of homes and pray.

One day I was passing by a new home on the corner. I noticed that it had an extra large parking area and in my conversation with God I made the following comment, “Oh, that this home would have one of your servants in it. Look at all the parking! This would make a great “home-cell” group.” I then went on my merry way.

The next day as I approached this same corner it was as if God placed within my mind this thought, “Your prayer shall be answered. This home is set apart for my work.”

As I walked on I chuckled and thought, “Yes, that would be something, wouldn’t it?”

About two years later I was attending a ladies Bible study in a church I did not regularly attend. The woman giving the study commented that she would like to move the ladies Bible study to her home. She shared that ever since she moved into that home she had thought that she would want to do a Bible Study out of her home.

*grin* … Guess where her home was located?

“Praying on-site with in-sight” is one of the benefits of prayer walking. I believe that as you do this type of praying you will begin to recognize God’s Will in your prayers. It is a great spiritual exercise! ((Oh, and physical too!))
